To ante up; To ante up sth: 

 To put forward a bet before the cash are dealt.

(Đặt cược trước khi tiền được chia).

(AmE) To pay a share of an amount of money that a group of people owe.

(Trả một khoản tiền mà một nhóm người nợ).

The check arrived and we all anted up.

(Có hóa đơn và tất cả chúng tôi đều trả tiền).

Some parents ante up big bucks to send their kids to prep school.

(Một vài bậc phụ huynh chi một khoản tiền rất lớn để đưa con đến các trường tư bậc trung học cơ sở).

Note: "To ante up" không được dùng với một tân ngữ là đại từ như him, her,....

To appeal for sth/sb; to appeal for sb to do sth

To make a serious and urgent request for sth/sb or for sb to do sth.

(Khẩn khoản yêu cầu ai/ điều gì).

The government appealed for people to keep calm.

(Chính phủ yêu cầu người dân giữ bình tĩnh).

Relief workers in the disaster area are appealing for more help and supplies.

(Những cán bộ trong vùng bị thiên tai khẩn khoản yêu cầu có thêm viện trợ và hàng nhu yếu phẩm).

To appeal to sb:

If sth appeals to you, you like it or find it interesting and attractive.

(Hấp dẫn, lý thú với ai).

The idea of living in the country doesn't appeal to me at all.

(Ý tưởng về quê sống chẳng hề thu hút tôi chút xíu nào cả).

To appeal to sth:

To try to persuade sb to do sth by reminding them that it is a good, resonable thing to do.

(Cố gắng thuyết phục, kêu gọi người khác bằng cách nhắc họ rằng làm điều gì đó là hợp lý, là tốt).

We aim to appeal to people's generosity.
